I like B+W shots and am constantly trying out new processes to get the tones and look I am after in an image. My go to app is usually Film Lab then some tweaking in Iris or Filterstorm but of late I’ve also been playing with Nik software’s Snapseed. I kind of like what snapseed can do but I think I prefer it’s looks with colour images. A few days ago though I spotted on the iPhoneography blog that a B+W conversion app I had not been aware of was updated and selling for 99cents so I decided to invest.
Dramatic B+W seems to have some nice looking presets for infra red, normal b+w and contrasty punchy b+w. These presets thankfully also allow you to adjust many of their characteristics. There is channel mixing, the ability to change tones and grain, sharpness and blur etc. Just the sort of thing I was hoping to find. Here is a quick example of what can be achieved. This is a large multi-shot panorama of Wembley stadium. I stuck it through an app to change perspective first and then processed and cropped it in this new B+W app. I like the high contrast sky it pulled out. Not bad for a first attempt. Need to play with it a bit more now to see what else I can come up with.
